Born on April 18, 1979, in Palermo (though her official documents say the 17th!), GIUSY FERRERI began singing at a very young age, following a passion that led her to participate in various singing festivals as a child. At 14, she began studying piano and singing, performing with various cover bands of different styles and genres, ranging from international and Italian rock to pop-rock, and even blues, southern rock, and psychedelic rock blues. With these bands, she participated in several contests for young emerging groups, winning multiple times. Alongside her non-professional music career, Giusy was always "forced" to hold down a part-time job, which over the years allowed her to invest in her own music. Her recording debut, albeit on a small scale, came at age 19 with the self-produced track "Woe Is Me," a piece with alternative grunge rock sounds written by her former guitar teacher, Rudolf Minuto. The track is included on the self-produced album "P.O.P." (named after her band, Prodigy Of Peace, an alternative rock band now known as Santajegoraha). At the age of 21, she teamed up with producers in the Milan area (including Marco Parmigiani), with whom she released the acid jazz track "Want U’ Be," a song included in a chill-out compilation distributed at a European level (her voice even reached France, where "Want U’ Be" was used to accompany a well-known brand of mineral water). In 2003, GIUSY signed her first record contract with Warner Music, but for the release of her first real single as a singer-songwriter, she had to wait until 2005, when she moved to BMG Ricordi, with whom she released the song "Il Party" under the stage name Gaetana. The breakthrough came in 2008 when she decided to audition for the first edition of the RaiDue talent show "X Factor." She entered the program's cast in the seventh episode and immediately received acclaim from the public, who saw her as an original interpreter. Although she did not win, her participation gave her the opportunity to sign a new record contract with Sony BMG, with which she released, at the end of the program, the CD-EP "Non ti scordar mai di me," a highly successful track presented at the X Factor finale written by Tiziano Ferro and Roberto Casalino. Here began GIUSY's real career, allowing her to dedicate herself completely to music and turn it into a true profession. The single "Non ti scordar mai di me" remained at number one on digital sales charts for sixteen weeks and at the top of the radio charts for eight weeks, while the EP remained at the top of the Fimi/Nielsen chart for eleven weeks (the first and only case for a debut artist), achieving triple platinum status for over 290,000 copies sold in just three months. The single was also at #1 on the iTunes Greece top download chart. The splendid collaboration with Tiziano Ferro continued, and he, together with Fabrizio Giannini and Michele Canova, produced GIUSY's first album of unreleased tracks, "GAETANA" (released by Sony BMG on November 24, 2008), which went 5 times platinum for over 400,000 copies sold. On the record, in addition to "Non ti scordar mai di me," GIUSY interpreted 4 other unreleased tracks by Tiziano Ferro ("L’amore e basta!"—where Giusy duets with Tiziano himself, "Aria di vita," "Stai fermo li"—the second single from the album, and "Passione positiva"), the Roberto Casalino track "Novembre" (which achieved enormous radio success), two unreleased tracks by Linda Perry ("La scala" and "Cuore assente," for which Tiziano Ferro wrote the Italian version of the lyrics), and the track written for her by Tiziano Ferro (lyrics) and Sergio Cammariere (music) entitled "Il sapore di un altro no." Giusy realized her dream as a songwriter by including "Piove," "In Assenza," "Pensieri," and "Il Party," four of her own tracks. "GAETANA" was released in Spain (in Spanish), Germany, Belgium, and France (in Italian). As of October 19, 2009, it had been on the Italian sales chart for exactly 48 consecutive weeks. Her 2009 opened with the start of her first tour, which took her all over Italy and, in the summer, to Greece and Albania as well. During the summer tour, GIUSY got back to work on her new recording project, recording what would become the tracks for the album "FOTOGRAFIE." This album, released on November 20, 2009, on the RCA/Sony Music label, is a sort of personal treasure chest containing songs by great Italian singer-songwriters and major international artists, such as "Il cielo è sempre più blu" by Rino Gaetano, "Come pensi possa amarti" (Como Quieres Que Te Quiera) by Rosario Flores, and "Il Mare Verticale" by Paolo Benvegnù, reinterpreted by Giusy's unmistakable voice. With "Fotografie," Giusy obtained a platinum record in Italy (with 120,000 copies sold) and one in Greece, two more important recognitions for her career. Throughout 2010, Giusy toured Italy with many dates and, in the few breaks between one evening and another, began writing the new album in the studio. In 2011, Giusy Ferreri participated in the Big category at the 61st Sanremo Music Festival with the song "Il mare immenso," written by Bungaro, Ferreri, and Calò, and produced and arranged by Corrado Rustici. On February 16, "Il mio universo" was released, an album that also contains "Il mare immenso," the song presented at Sanremo. On April 29, the second single from the album, "Piccoli dettagli," hit the radio. At the same time, the tour began, which would last throughout the summer. In May, "Il mare immenso" obtained a gold record. Thanks to this track, Giusy won the Premio Lunezia in July—Sanremo category. In March 2012, Giusy collaborated with Alessandro Haber, performing two tracks with him: "Nessuno poteva non sapere" (together with Enzo Gragnaniello, Giuliano Sangiorgi, and Phil Palmer) and "Che senso ha." In 2013, another important collaboration was with Nicola Piovani; with him, Giusy recorded the track "Canzone del mal di luna," included in the pianist's album "Cantabile." After a period spent between Los Angeles and London working on new pieces, Giusy returned to the music scene with her participation in the 2014 edition of the Sanremo Festival with the songs "L’amore possiede il bene" and "Ti porto a cena con me." On March 25, 2014, the new album of unreleased tracks "L’Attesa" was released. On June 19, 2015, "Roma-Bangkok," the single by Baby K feat. Giusy, entered radio rotation, becoming the hit of summer 2015 and recording record-breaking achievements: certified 8 times platinum in Italy in a few months and gold in Switzerland, #1 on the Earone chart, it dominated radio airplay for months; it remained firmly at #1 on the FIMI/GfK chart of the best-selling singles for 11 consecutive weeks, #1 on the iTunes singles and video charts, #1 on the Italian Shazam chart, and present on the global and trending charts. It exceeded 150 million views on Vevo/YouTube, making it the most-watched Italian video ever on Vevo and placing it second in the ranking of the most-watched videos of 2015, with more than 20 million streams on Spotify, where it obtained #1 on the Top50 Italy and where it holds the daily record in Italy; it reached the podium in the Viral 50 Italy and entered the Viral 50 in Argentina, Spain, France, Belgium, Australia, Guatemala, Chile, the Netherlands, Singapore, Colombia, and Peru; it recorded the all-time record for daily streams on Spotify Italy. On March 4, the single, already one of the most played tracks on French radio, debuted on the Latin market with the new Spanish version "Roma-Bangkok (Spanish Version)," adapted by Josè Luis Pagan (producer, among others, of Jennifer Lopez and Marc Anthony). On December 4, 2015, "HITS" was released on the Sony Music label, Giusy Ferreri's first compilation, which encapsulates all her greatest successes. "Hits" marked the beginning of a new and important chapter in her career, combining the greatest successes of the past and offering a taste of her new productions. Among others, the collection contains the singer-songwriter's most famous tracks, such as the absolute hit of summer 2015 "Roma-Bangkok" (in collaboration with Baby K), the debut single "Non Ti Scordar Mai di Me," the duet with Tiziano Ferro "L’Amore e Basta," and "Ti Porto a Cena Con Me," one of the two tracks that Giusy Ferreri presented at the 2014 Sanremo Festival. Alongside them are three unreleased tracks: "Volevo te" (certified PLATINUM), "Come un’ora fa," and "Prometto di sbagliare." On December 15, 2016, she returned as a guest to the finale of X Factor 10, duetting with Baby K and the Soul System, the band that won the talent show, on the notes of the track "Roma-Bangkok." Currently, Giusy is preparing to return to compete at the Sanremo Festival with the song "FA TALMENTE MALE" (Sony Music), which will be included on the new album of unreleased tracks "GIROTONDO," released on March 3. And in April, she will be in concert in Rome and Milan with the "ANTEPRIMA TOUR 2017."
